The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the dates for the much-anticipated WTC final in 2025. For the first time, the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London will host this prestigious event, scheduled to take place from June 11 to June 15, 2025, with June 16 set aside as a reserve day in case of any interruptions.
WTC Final at Lord’s
Lord’s, often referred to as the “Home of Cricket,” is set to add another feather to its cap by hosting the WTC final. This decision marks a significant milestone as the previous finals were held at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton (2021) and The Oval in London (2023). The choice of Lord’s underscores the ICC’s commitment to celebrating the heritage and tradition of Test cricket.
The WTC final will feature the top two teams from the current WTC standings. As of now, India and Australia are leading the race, with India holding the top spot with six wins from nine matches and a points percentage of 68.52%, while Australia follows closely with eight wins from twelve matches and a points percentage of 62.50%. However, other teams like New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Bangladesh are still in contention, making the race to the final an exciting prospect.
ICC CEO Geoff Allardice expressed his excitement about the upcoming final, highlighting its importance in the cricketing calendar. “The ICC World Test Championship Final has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in the cricketing calendar, and we are pleased to announce the dates for the 2025 edition,” Allardice stated. He emphasized the enduring appeal of Test cricket and encouraged fans to register their interest in tickets early, anticipating high demand for this ultimate test of cricketing prowess.
