The upcoming IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022 has now been confirmed to take place in La Nucia, the Spanish city located in the Alicante region of the Valencian Community, and will host the Championships from 14th to 26th November this year.
Marking their maiden world class boxing event, the Spanish Boxing Federation is hosting the championships on the commemorative event of its 100th anniversary this year. Previously, only continental-level events have taken place in the country.
August 3rd marked the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of the Spanish Boxing Federation. The Federation has produced twelve world champions and two champions in men’s tennis, fifty-eight European champions and seven European champions, as well as hundreds of champions from Spain.
Initially known as the Spanish Defense Sports Federation, it included wrestling, fencing, and boxing disciplines. As of August 3, 1922, the Spanish Defense Sports Federation Federation became the Spanish Boxing Federation, with its headquarters in Barcelona.
“Many of the fans have witnessed our youth boxers at the various continental tournaments, and it’s time they shined on the international stage,” said IBA president Umar Kremlev, “Some of the boxers might well become superstars of our sport, and this is a unique moment to see their first steps towards elite boxing. This is a great opportunity to discover new talents and show passion for our sport.”
“Spain has many talented young boxers, and this IBA Youth World Boxing Championships will give an impetus to the boxing development in the country. I want to thank Spanish Boxing Federation for their hard work towards making this tournament a success,” Kremlev added.
“We are excited about the challenge of hosting such an important competition that has never been held in Spain before,” said Spanish Boxing Federation president Felipe Martinez, “We know that these are going to be intense months, but both my team and I are willing to put the best of ourselves to achieve success as hosts. It should become a great finishing touch for the 100 years of the life of our Federation.”
