The bowling scene of Team India has had dramatic ups and downs over the past few years, especially in the fast bowlers category. After the retirement of veterans like Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh and Javagal Srinath, the bowling lineup seemed to fumble. But, the wave of Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma, and the present generation Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah – has surprised even the legendary Ian Bishop!

In a recent interview with ESPNCricinfo, the West Indies legend went nothing but praise over the present pacers of Men in Blue, who are hosting the Windies tomorrow at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

I couldn’t see this much (improvement), but I thought there was a great deal of promise in having guys who could bowl close to, or over, 90mph,” he told the reporters.

“I couldn’t have predicted that. And (Mohammed) Shami has taken his game to another level. Ishant (Sharma) has also gone up another level, which I didn’t foresee,” the 52 year old added.

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, India’s bowlers have absolutely annihilate their opponents in all forms of the sport. Eclipsing the spinners, they have performed nothing short of astonishing against the recent Bangladesh series, and the Proteas before that.

However, the commentator did not forget to specifically hail Bumrah, calling him a ‘generation talent’.

“But also, the fact that you’ve found a generational talent in Jasprit Bumrah. Generational because he plays all formats of the game very well,” Bishop continued.

Kicking off tomorrow, the 3-day T20 series will be following up by a 3-day ODI series, starting from 15th December.
