Hardik Pandya, a renowned name in the world of cricket, has been a significant contributor to the Indian cricket team. Known for his all-round abilities, Pandya’s journey has been marked by exceptional highs and challenging lows. One such low was the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, which turned out to be a tumultuous period for him.
In IPL 2024, Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians (MI) and was appointed as the captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. This decision was met with widespread criticism from a section of MI fans. The backlash was intense, and Pandya was dubbed ‘Public Enemy No. 1’. His performance during the season was also underwhelming, with only 216 runs at an average of 18 and 11 wickets from 14 games. Under his leadership, MI finished at the tenth spot.
Ian Bishop laus Hardik Pandya’s personality
However, the true measure of a person’s character is not how they handle success, but how they rise from failure. Ian Bishop, former West Indies fast bowler and now a commentator, believes that Pandya is a strong personality who has moved on from the IPL setback.
Bishop’s comments came after Pandya’s impressive performance in India’s 60-run win over Bangladesh in a warm-up match for the T20 World Cup 2024. In the match, Pandya showcased his all-round skills, smashing a 23-ball 40 and also chipping in with a wicket.
Bishop stated, “I think he is a pretty strong personality. I would like to think that the other members of the team would have rallied around him. What he endured during the IPL, some of it was not of his own making. I just wish fans could have approached it maybe a little differently, but they have the right to voice their views however they see fit.”
Bishop further added, “I am sure he has moved on now to what is the biggest stage in T20 international cricket and that whole picture is ahead of us. But he is a strong guy.”
