"I've enjoyed both but I think I was a bit more fluent today" - Jos Buttler rates his hundred against KKR over MI

Jos Buttler scored his second hundred of the ongoing IPL 2022 season to extend his lead at the top of the Orange Cap list. The Englishman punished the struggling Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling unit to help Rajasthan Royals (RR) post a mammoth total on board.

Playing his first contest at the batting-friendly surface at the Brabourne Stadium, Buttler continued his fine touch. Doing the majority scoring in the powerplay, the wicket-keeper raced to his third IPL fifty of the season.

His first hundred came against the Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium earlier this month. Comparing both of his spectacular innings, Buttler said during the mid-innings break:

“I’ve enjoyed both but I think I was a bit more fluent today. We’ve got a very good score on the board but with one short side you never know if we’ve got enough.”

Assessing the surface at the iconic venue, Buttler remarked:

“A bit sticky at the start but once you got used to the pace of the wicket it felt nice. That one shorter side is going to play a big part in how we defend that. I’ve loved batting with Hettie – he’s always smiling and is enjoying his cricket. He’s bringing out the best in me as well. He’s been finishing the innings brilliantly and is great to bat with,”

The surface in use for the contest is one of the lateral ones, which gives one shorter boundary and one longer. Batters and bowlers, primarily the former made full use of this, scoring boundaries in abundance.

“Towards the end, it’s about the slower ones” – Jos Buttler on the key to bowl on the surface

KKR will have to pull out a monumental effort and record one of IPL’s highest ever chases to put the points on the board. It will prove to be a tough task against a potent RR bowling unit, bolstered by the return of Trent Boult.

Believing that bowling towards the longer boundary and the judicious use of slower deliveries will be the key, Buttler said:

“Early on it’s very similar and even if you keep getting hit from that length you have to keep going back there and make them hit again. Towards the end it’s about the slower ones and using that longer boundary.”

KKR lost their first wicket off the very first delivery of the innings by dismissing Sunil Narine for a duck.
