Hockey World Cup 2018: Belgium embarrasses England 6-0; The Netherlands beat Australia 4-3 in penalty shootout

The 14th edition of Hockey World Cup is back in India and is all set to take place in Bhubaneshwar, Odhisa. The hockey world cup which started on November 28 will come to an end on 16th December and will take place at the Kalinga Stadium. A total of 16 countries are participating in this event.

In today’s opening game, Belgium trashed England 6-0 and Netherlands defeat Australia 4-3 in the semi-final game.

The Belgium team has created history as for the very first time the Belgian team has reached the final of the Hockey World Cup. They totally outclassed the English side 6-0 in the semi-final game.

Alexander Hendrickx (45th, 50th minutes) converted two penalty corners, while Tom Boon (8th), Simon Gougnard (19th), Cedric Charlier (42nd) and Sebastien Dockier (53rd) were the other goal scorers for the world number three at the Kalinga Stadium.

In the second game, The Dutch side ended Australia’s hope of winning a Hattrick world cup as they crushed the Aussie side 4-3 in a penalty shootout.

Glenn Schuurman (9th minute) and Seeve van Ass (20th) scored for the Dutch before Tim Howard (45th) converted a penalty corner and Eddie Ockenden (60th) found the equaliser for Australia just 26 seconds from the final hooter. In the shoot-off, Daniel Beale, Tom Craig and Jake Whetton scored for Australia while Jeroen Hertzberger, Van Ass and Thijs van Dam scored for the Dutch side.

In the end, it’s fair to say that the Dutch deserve to be in the final. They will play Belgium for the title.

The final will be played in Kalinga Stadium tomorrow at 7 P.M and will be available on Hotstar as well as live TV platforms like Jio TV and Airtel TV.
