The Hockey India League (HIL) is set to make an exciting return after a seven-year hiatus, with the 2024-2025 season kicking off on December 28, 2024. The tournament will feature eight men’s teams and four women’s teams, bringing top-tier hockey action to fans across India.
Hockey India League Details
- Men’s League: Begins on December 28, 2024, at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.
- Women’s League: Starts on January 12, 2025, at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Ranchi.
- Finals: Men’s final on February 1, 2025, and women’s final on January 26, 2025.
Format and Schedule
Men’s League:
- Phase 1: December 28, 2024, to January 18, 2025 – Round-robin format where each team plays against every other team once.
- Phase 2: January 19, 2025, onwards – Teams divided into two pools (Pool A and Pool B), with each team playing against others in their respective pool. The top four teams advance to the semi-finals on January 31, 2025.
Women’s League:
- Double Round-Robin: Each team plays against every other team twice.
- Final: The top two teams from the pool stage meet in the final on January 26, 2025.

Men’s Teams:
- Pool A: Delhi SG Pipers, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Soorma Hockey Club, Vedanta Kalinga Lancers.
- Pool B: Gonasika, Hyderabad Toofans, Tamil Nadu Dragons, UP Rudras.
Women’s Teams:
- The four teams will be announced closer to the start date.

Hockey India League Governing Committee Chairperson Dr Dilip Tirkey expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We are thrilled to reintroduce the HIL after a seven-year hiatus. This season promises high-calibre matches and intense competition, showcasing the best of Indian and international hockey talent.”
