The Hockey India League (HIL) made a groundbreaking announcement: free tickets for fans attending the upcoming 2024-25 matches in Ranchi and Rourkela. This initiative, spearheaded by the HIL Governing Committee chairperson Dilip Tirkey, aims to make the sport more accessible to its supporters and bring the excitement of live hockey to a wider audience.
Hockey India League’s initiative for the fans
Tirkey emphasized that this move is a historic moment for hockey in India, ensuring that everyone, regardless of financial status, has the opportunity to experience the thrill of live hockey. The men’s HIL will kick off on December 28, 2024, at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, with the final scheduled for February 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the women’s league will begin on January 12, 2025, at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, with the final slated for January 26, 2025.
HIL governing committee member Bhola Nath Singh echoed Tirkey’s sentiments, stating that the initiative is a way of showing appreciation for the fans’ unwavering support. He added that the goal is to fill the stadiums with fans cheering on their favourite teams and inspire a new generation of players and supporters.
The decision to offer free tickets is part of Hockey India’s broader vision to take the sport to every corner of the country and build a stronger connection between the sport and its passionate supporters. By foregoing revenue from ticket sales, Hockey India aims to create lifelong memories for fans and reinforce its commitment to making hockey the people’s game.
