Sreejesh was one of the stars of India’s campaign, making crucial saves during the bronze medal match against Spain, securing India’s second consecutive Olympic medal in hockey.
Even before the Olympics, Sreejesh expressed his interest in coaching. As a goalkeeper, he was the coach on the ground, communicating with defence, midfielders, and forwards. His experience working with various coaches during his career prepared him for this new role.
Hockey India shared the news on social media, saying, “The Legend makes another Legendary move. P R Sreejesh has been appointed as the new head coach of the Jr. Men’s Hockey Team. From playing to coaching, you continue to inspire all the youngsters. Looking forward to your coaching stint!”

Sreejesh had announced that he wouldn’t reverse his retirement decision after the Olympics. Instead, he chose to embrace coaching. His transition from player to coach marks a significant chapter in Indian hockey history.
HI Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh confirmed the decision and stated that they would discuss it with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Government of India.
