Hockey India announces 16-member men’s squad for the Paris Olympics

Hockey India has unveiled the 16-member Indian men’s hockey squad for the Paris Olympics 2024 Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11. The team, captained by ace drag-flicker and defender Harmanpreet Singh, aims to clinch gold in the prestigious event.

Harmanpreet, playing in his third Olympics, was the youngest member of the Indian squad at Rio 2016. He played a pivotal role in India’s historic bronze medal win at Tokyo 2020. Experienced midfielder Hardik Singh will serve as the vice-captain.

PR Sreejesh (Goalkeeper): Veteran goalkeeper with four Olympic appearances.

Manpreet Singh (Midfielder): Also making his fourth Olympic appearance, Manpreet was India’s captain at Tokyo 2020.

The Indian men’s hockey team competes in Pool B alongside reigning champions Belgium, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, and Ireland. Their campaign begins on July 27 against New Zealand, followed by matches against Argentina, Ireland, and Belgium. The final is scheduled for August 8 at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Paris. India aims to reclaim the gold medal, last achieved at the Moscow 1980 Summer Games.
