Anant Chopade hails from the village of Sawna, Buldhana District of Maharashtra. The younger Son of Pralhad Chopade, who is a small farmer by profession, is now helping out his father on the field, during his time away from the boxing ring.

“I have been working at the farm for more than two months. I have never stayed away from the boxing ring for this long since I made my debut in junior section… boxing action should start soon,” Anant spoke to Times of India.

The 22 year old pugilist won his gold at the 23rd President’s Cup in Indonesia last year. Competing in the 52 kg category, he secured a 5-0 victory over Afghanistan’s Rahmani Ramish in the final.

In 2018, Anant landed a job in the Indian Railways, the same year when he won a silver in the Nationals. Being a vital member of the national camp since his first bronze all the way back in 2016, the past two months have been the longest Anant has spent with his family, and also, away from the ring.

The Shiv Chhatrapati honoree had qualified for the national camp trials, which was supposed to be held in March, but faced cancellation on the onset of the COVID-19 crisis. However, Anant is positive of making the cut of the ‘select’ boxers BFI is enlisting for the planned boxing camp in Patiala in the near future.

“Nothing is guaranteed, but I’m positive about being called for the camp,” the youngster continued, “all credit goes to my coach in Akola Satish Chandra Bhat. During my early days he nurtured me like his own son. Maharashtra Boxing Association (MBA) secretary Rakesh Tiwari is the other one who always supported me.”
