It has been almost two months that the human life has been without any football action due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic. Following a complete suspension of all football activities in Europe, a number of leagues like the Ligue 1 and Eredivise cancelled their current seasons, and the rest are still on the books on making a possible comeback in the coming months. However, the lengthy wait for football fans is finally over, as Bundesliga is the first major European football league that is making a comeback on 16th May!
Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga were suspended on March 13th by the DFL. Following almost two months of repeated extension of the suspension and speculations on a possible return date, the German top flight football has finally received the green light from the country’s government. However, since the novel Coronavirus crisis is still prevalent in the country, all matches will be behind closed doors, as fans will be glued to the screens in their homes on the resumption of German football.
Resuming from matchday 26, the 2019-20 Bundesliga still has 9 matchdays left, with Bayern Munich leading the table with 55 points from 25 matches. Borussia Dortmund, who will be pitted against FC Schalke 04 in the first season re-opener match, are close in second, with 51 points. Bayern have their match on Sunday against Union Berlin.
