Henrikh Mkhitaryan- the central midfielder who had emerged from Armenia to hustle at the top flight of European football. Rising through the ranks in Shakhtar Donetsk and presently ending up at AS Roma on loan from Arsenal, he graced the Bundesliga and Premier League. Often credited for using his brain more than his foot in game, and drawn comparison with Zinedine Zidane. But did you know he has mastered eight languages over his career? Yes, EIGHT!
Roma are currently 4th on the league table, and secured 3 points from today’s 3-1 away victory over Hellas Verona, the third goal coming in the 92nd minute from Mkhitaryan. The 30 year old was present at the post match conference, where he started speaking fluent Italian, within just three months at the Stadio Olimpico.
Speaking to local media outlet Roma Press, the Armenian skipper said: “I feel good, I missed playing, two months is too long. It’s a shame but now I feel good and I think it was very important to win today.”
“We didn’t play very well, but the most important thing was the three points.” he added.
Hearing Mkhitaryan’s fluency in a language is not surprising. Other than his mother tongue, the player has developed firm grasp on various other languages according to the clubs he played and trained with. From Shakhtar, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and currently on his loan spell in Italy from Arsenal, the player has learnt French, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, English, German and most recently Italian.
