The youngster had uploaded an image of himself on a hospital bed and assured fans that he will be back on the field. However, with only a couple of matches remaining and DC’s qualification hopes hanging by a thread, Shaw’s campaign could come to an early end.

Speaking during the post-match presentation following the Capitals’ win over the Rajasthan Royals, Pant said:

“We miss him but we can’t control that. He has typhoid or something like that is what the doctor told me,”

Shaw was in the midst of a rather successful individual campaign and had forged a successful partnership with David Warner at the top.

After being retained by the franchise after IPL 2021. The youngster scored 259 runs in nine matches in the ongoing season of the competition.

DC are placed fifth on the table with 12 points after 12 matches. They have struggled to find consistency amid injury concerns and COVID outbreaks within the squad.

The 2020 IPL finalists have to win both of their remaining matches to compete in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

Rishabh Pant praised the team for putting in a complete performance to oust the Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium:

“It was close to a perfect game as I believe there is always space for improvement. On these kinds of wickets where there is little turn, you can go either way. I am happy we bowled first. I thought 140-160 was a good score and said so at the toss. And we got there. Destiny is always on your hands, you can look to give 100 percent. The fielding could be better, but this was close to a perfect game,”
