Fans have already witnessed movies like ‘Shabaash Mithu’ and Chakda ‘Xpress which are the biopics of Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami respectively. Now, India women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed that biopics of women cricket icons help ‘motivate’ young girls to take up sports as a long-term career option. The skipper further hinted at the possibility of her biopic in the near future as she attended a fashion show in Kolkata on Saturday.
Harmanpreet Kaur might consider accepting the offer of a biopic
The 33-year-old cited ‘Shabaash Mithu’ as an example and stated how biopics have an impact on the young generation. The film referred to by the skipper was a biopic on former India cricket team captain Mithali Raj, a role essayed by Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu.
“Films such as ‘Shabaash Mithu’ motivate young girls to become cricketers or take up other sports as a career. We know how much hard work goes behind realizing one’s dreams. Such movies help the cause of women’s cricket in India. The mindset of parents has changed. Women can now take up sports as a career. There is money and fame if you excel. Acceptance for sportswomen has increased substantially,” said Harmanpreet during the event.
She also added that she would ponder over the possibility of her biopic when asked by one of the journalists present at the event. “If there is any proposal in the future, I will think about it. But as of now, I haven’t really thought about it,” added the skipper.
Harmanpreet has played a major role in the national side and made impacts on numerous occasions in the big matches. She has represented the Indian team in three tests, 124 ODIs, and 137 T20Is during her stint thus far. The 33-year-old has scored 3322 ODI runs, including five centuries and 17 half-centuries, and 2694 T20I runs, including one century and eight half-centuries.
