Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), has sought divine intervention at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat amidst a challenging start to his leadership tenure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Hardik Pandya seeks divine intervention for a change of fortune
The Mumbai Indians, under Pandya’s leadership, have had a less-than-ideal start to the IPL 2024 season. They have lost all three matches they have played so far, with their recent defeat coming against the Rajasthan Royals on April 1 at Wankhede. This has put the team in a precarious position early in the tournament.
Amid these professional challenges, Pandya was seen offering prayers at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat. A video shared by the temple trust shows Pandya in a moment of reflection, seeking solace and inspiration to turn around his team’s fortunes.

Pandya’s takeover as captain from MI’s most successful skipper Rohit Sharma has irked fans of the five-time champions. So much so that Pandya has endured boos from the crowd across all three matches thus far, in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and at home at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Despite the rocky start, there is still a long way to go in the tournament. The Mumbai Indians have a history of bouncing back from early setbacks. In IPL 2014, they lost the first five matches but then won seven of the remaining nine to scrape through to the Playoffs. In IPL 2015, they lost four in a row but ended up winning the title.
