Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh has been away from the international circuit from quite sometimes now. While he is still eyeing to return, he has been a regular face in the Indian Premier League. Despite last featured in the blue way back in 2016, he has played for the two most successful franchises in the IPL – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
However, Harbhajan Singh has opened up about his desire to play the shortest format for India. He has so far played 160 matches in the Indian Premier League and claimed 150 wickets as well which came at an average of 26.44, with the best bowling figures of 5 for 18. He has taken seven wickets in his last five IPL games for Chennai Super Kings too.
However, he revealed that he might announce his retirement after the next IPL. But he also mentioned that it will depend upon his body. The experienced spinner also said that he has done yoga session for four months, did the workout and took proper rest which made him feel like his younger self, especially in 2013 when he had claimed 24 wickets in a single IPL season.
“I can’t say whether this will be my last IPL. It depends on my body. After four months of workout, rest, yoga sessions, I feel reinvigorated just like 2013, when I had 24 wickets in that IPL edition,” Harbhajan Singh told PTI.
“To each his own. If someone feels he wants game time, good for him. If I bowl 2000 balls at the nets for a month, the amount of top-level cricket I have played, it’s good enough,” he further added.
Singh has 417 Test wickets and 269 ODIs wickets in his name which he has taken for India. Even, he is the most successful off-spinner for India as well. Moreover, he became the first Indian to register a hat-trick in the longer format of the game when he picked up 32 wickets in three Test matches against mighty Australia in 2001.
