Ex-RCB Star Labels Glenn Maxwell as The “most overrated player in the history of IPL”

Glenn Maxwell

Former India cricketer turned commentator Parthiv Patel has stirred up controversy with his recent comments on Glenn Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

In a tweet from his official X account, Patel didn’t mince words. He labeled Maxwell as the “most overrated player in the history of IPL” following a lackluster performance against Gujarat Titans (GT). Maxwell’s struggles with the bat have been evident throughout the season, and Patel’s criticism struck a chord with fans and cricket enthusiasts.

Glenn Maxwell’s Poor Form

Glenn Maxwell, who has been part of the IPL since 2012, won his only title in 2013 while playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI). However, in the ongoing IPL 2024, he has had a dismal season with the bat. So far, he has managed just 36 runs from seven innings at an average of 5.14 and a strike rate of 97.29. Despite his struggles with the bat, he has contributed decently with the ball, taking five wickets from five innings at an average of 20.80 and an economy rate of 8.66.

Patel’s comment triggered a wave of trolling on social media, with some users mocking his height. However, the Gujarat-born cricketer didn’t shy away from responding. He engaged with his trolls, emphasizing that opinions from people below 5’2″ don’t matter.

Patel even posted a photograph of himself with the IPL trophy, subtly highlighting RCB’s empty trophy cabinet in the league. Patel, with three IPL titles to his name (once with CSK in 2010 and twice with MI in 2015 and 2017), knows what it takes to win the coveted trophy.

RCB’s Playoff Hopes

Meanwhile, RCB secured a crucial four-wicket win against GT in their recent match. After bundling out Gujarat for 147, RCB chased down the target in just 13.4 overs, with captain Faf du Plessis leading the charge with a blistering 64 off 23 balls.

As the IPL drama unfolds, the debate over Maxwell’s performance continues. Whether he can turn things around and prove his worth remains to be seen.
