In a candid revelation, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recently shared an intriguing story about his relationship with Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli. Maxwell disclosed that Kohli had blocked him on Instagram back in 2021, following an incident that occurred during the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The Incident

During the third Test match in Ranchi, Kohli sustained a shoulder injury while fielding. Two days later, Maxwell, while batting for Australia, mimicked Kohli by clutching his right shoulder, which did not sit well with the Indian captain. Kohli, who missed the final Test in Dharamsala due to the injury, decided to block Maxwell on Instagram as a reaction to the mocking gesture.

Glenn Maxwell’s Reconciliation with Virat Kohli

Despite the initial tension, Maxwell and Kohli eventually became teammates at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2021 season. Kohli was the first to welcome Maxwell to the team, and the two spent a lot of time together during the pre-IPL training camp. Maxwell only realized he had been blocked when he tried to follow Kohli on Instagram and couldn’t find him.

When Maxwell confronted Kohli about the block, Kohli admitted to it, saying, “Yeah, probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match.” Maxwell responded, “Yeah, that’s fair enough,” and Kohli unblocked him. Since then, the two have developed a strong bond and have shared many experiences, both on and off the field.

Maxwell reflected on their journey, saying, “It was a nice little story to have as a little side note, but we’ve had quite a funny relationship leading up to playing the IPL together. Sharing that dressing room and sharing experiences, becoming parents, I suppose, around the same time. From the days we were both young and brash and going hard at each other on the field. We were in the front and centre of all that as well, sort of being the orchestrator like Maxi, getting into his face. Say some words to him and get the young guy to do the hard work.”
