Mahendra Singh Dhoni has captained the Indian cricket team for more than a decade. Over the years, many of his teammates have often given account of their unique and memorable experiences with the revered ‘captain cool’, which ranged from the 22 yards to the dressing room stories. However, Gautam Gambhir has a completely different escapade with Dhoni, as the retired Indian opening batsman recently spilled the beans about the one time he spend a month as a roomie of the former skipper of the team.

On the latest episode of Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Connected’, Gambhir recalled his days of donning the sky blue jersey, and revealed an instance when Dhoni was his room mate while on a tour, back when the Indian captain sported his long hairstyle, which was a topic of discussion between them.

“We were roommates for more than a month and all we used to talk about was hair because he had those long hair and how he would maintain that hair and all that stuff,” Gambhir said in the show.

Mahi’s hairstyle was not the only subject for the two teammates, Gambhir also recalled how they dealt with the room being too small.

“We remember sleeping on the floor, because we had a very small room and the first week, we were discussing how to make this room look bigger,” the 38 year old continued, “So, we removed the bed out of the room and then we slept on the floor on the mattresses and it was a great moment because we both were young.”

Gambhir touched on the time he spend together during Dhoni’s initial days of donning the Indian jersey, and the two youngsters of Men in Blue were on tours a lot. However, it was only those days as a roomie that let Gauti understand Dhoni as a person.

“We were both young, MS Dhoni had recently started playing international cricket together. We went to Kenya together, we went for India A tour to Zimbabwe together and spent a lot of time together,” Gambhir added.

“But when you share a room for a month and a half with someone, you get to know a lot about that person,” he concluded.
