Gautam Gambhir did not hesitate to lash out at BCCI’s selection committee after Ambati Rayudu was repeatedly ignored by the panel while considering replacement for injuries.

It is believed that Rayudu’s retirement was provoked due to the fact that both Vijay Shankar and Rishabh Pant were preferred ahead of him for a place in the world cup squad. Gambhir who took to twitter later today questioned the exclusion of Rayudu while also going on to question the credibility of the selectors.

“What surprises me most is that entire BCCI current selection panel had an unfulfilled career themselves! Even then they couldn’t give a fair run to talent like Ambati Rayudu. What a shame! While it’s important to win titles, guess it’s more important to have a heart,” Gambhir tweeted.

Rayudu in his ODI career has played 55 games with an average of 47.05 and 3 centuries to his name. Even after not making to the world cup squad in the first attempt, he was expected to be a part of it in case injuries occurred. But with Rishabh Pant and now potentially Mayank Agarwal being roped in as replacements, Rayudu has decided to bring his playing career to a close.
