Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, has expressed optimism regarding the availability of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for most games. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from T20 Internationals (T20Is) after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. This decision allows them to focus on other formats.

Gambhir expects these two stalwarts to prioritize their fitness and be available for most of the Tests and One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. With T20Is off their plate, they now have only two formats to manage.
“Rohit and Virat not playing T20I cricket, they only have two formats to look after. I am sure they are going to be available for most of the games. Yes, for Jasprit Bumrah (workload management), he is one rare kind of a bowler. It’s our responsibility to try and have him fresh for major games. Not just for Bumrah, but for most of the fast bowlers, workload management becomes really important,” Gambhir said during the press conference.

Gambhir’s expectations align with the long-term goal of preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. Both Kohli and Rohit will play crucial roles in India’s campaign.
Gambhir’s vision involves balancing player workload, ensuring availability, and nurturing talent for India’s future endeavours. As the cricketing world watches, Kohli and Rohit continue to be pivotal figures in India’s cricketing landscape.
