Gautam Gambhir criticizes Virat Kohli for dropping Ambati Rayudu in the last two ODIs against Australia

Australia has finally ended the ODI series against India on a winning note as they defeated India 3-2 in the five matches ODI series. Aaron Finch led Australian team fought back brilliantly in the last 3 ODI’s after trailing 2-0 in the first two matches.

This series loss might be a wake-up call for India ahead of the ICC world cup which starts from 30th May 2019 in England and Wales. Now, former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir has criticised Virat Kohli for dropping Ambati Rayudu from the squad for the last 2 ODI’s while giving struggling Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan the opportunity to play the entire series against Australia.

Ambati Rayudu has done nothing wrong because of which he should not be part of the playing XI. He scored runs against New Zealand, scored in the series against West Indies and just because he had two or three bad games does not mean that you drop him from the playing XI. Even in the last game, we had discussed. You have given Shikhar Dhawan 19 innings but gave Ambati Rayudu only three chances.

When you are a captain, you have to stay fair by all means for every player. If you feel Dhawan requires chances before the World Cup because he is an important player for you, same criteria should be followed for Rayudu so that he too gets enough game time and plays consistently at No.4,” Gambhir said on air during the 5th ODI.
