Gautam Gambhir, the newly-appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, has officially confirmed the appointment of Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches. This dynamic coaching trio reunites after their successful collaboration with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL 2024 season.

Gautam Gambhir’s experience with Nayar and ten Doeschate

Nayar and Ten Doeschate, both accomplished cricketers, played pivotal roles in KKR’s IPL victory. Their experience and understanding of the game make them valuable additions to the national coaching setup. The coaching trio’s first assignment with the Indian team kicks off on July 27. India will face Sri Lanka in a series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

T. Dilip, who served as the fielding coach during Rahul Dravid’s tenure, continues in his role. Known for his effective coaching methods and team bonding exercises, Dilip brings stability to the dressing room. Sairaj Bahutule, associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA), steps in as the interim bowling coach for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka.

Abhishek Nayar, with a distinguished cricketing background, played three ODIs for India and secured multiple Ranji Trophy titles with Mumbai. His mentoring skills have benefited players like Dinesh Karthik, aiding their international comebacks.

Ryan Ten Doeschate, a Netherlands batter, brings his global cricket experience to the coaching staff. His insights and tactical acumen will be invaluable.

As the Indian team prepares for the Sri Lanka tour, Gambhir expressed his satisfaction with the support staff lineup. The exact details of the complete support staff will be revealed after the series, but for now, the focus is on guiding the team to success.
