Here’s why Gautam Gambhir believes India will whitewash the England Test series

While Team India are ready to host England in a full-fledged series, former India player Gautam Gambhir has predicted what could be the result of the Test series is. He said that England wouldn’t win any Test in the upcoming four-match Test series as the spin attack will make the difference.

England have included the spinners like – Moeen Ali, Dom Bess and Jack Leach in their squad. While Ali is a veteran campaigner with 181 wickets from 60 Tests so far, Bess and Leach have played 12 Tests each, where they claimed 31 and 44 wickets respectively as well.

“I don’t see England winning any of the Test matches with the kind of spin attack they’ve got,” 39-year-old Gambhir was quoted as saying in Star Sports show ‘Game Plan’. “It has to be 3-0 India or probably 3-1. I’m only going to give a Pink Ball Test match, probably 50-50 to England just from the conditions point of view.”

Gautam Gambhir has also said that England captain Joe Root, who was in a prolific form in the recently-concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka where they won 2-0, will find a tough challenge in India.

“This is going to be a completely different challenge for someone like Joe Root. Yes, he has played really well in Sri Lanka, but when you face people like Jasprit Bumrah on any wicket, or for that matter, R Ashwin, when his confidence is sky-high after what he has done in Australia, I am sure it is going to be a completely different beast and a completely different ball game,” Gambhir again shared.

The first two Tests of the series will be played in Chennai, which is starting on Friday. Meanwhile, the third and fourth Test will take place in Ahmedabad in which the third one will be a pink-ball affair as well.

However, with this series, Virat Kohli will return to international cricket and resume his captaincy duty as well. He had last played in the Adelaide Test against Australia and had missed three Tests in Australia which India won 2-1 as he returned home for the birth of his first child with his wife, Anushka Sharma.
