Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, recently addressed the media ahead of the team’s departure to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He played down the pressure surrounding the team and expressed confidence in the abilities of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to shine in Australia.

Gautam Gambhir addresses Criticism

Gambhir responded to comments made by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who expressed concerns about Kohli and Rohit’s recent form. Ponting suggested that Kohli’s record of only two centuries in five years would not be acceptable for any other player. Gambhir dismissed these remarks, stating, “What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket?” He emphasized that Kohli and Rohit are incredibly tough players who work hard and remain passionate about the game.

Kohli and Rohit’s Hunger

Gambhir highlighted the hunger and determination of Kohli and Rohit to perform well. He noted that despite recent challenges, both players are focused on achieving more and contributing to the team’s success. Gambhir praised their readiness to bounce back and perform in Australia.

Gambhir emphasized that the team’s focus is on performing well in the upcoming series, rather than worrying about the World Test Championship (WTC) final. He stated, “Every series is important, irrespective of what has happened in the past for us.” He also mentioned that if Rohit is unavailable for the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah would lead the team.

Gautam Gambhir’s comments reflect his confidence in the team’s ability to overcome challenges and perform well in Australia. With Kohli and Rohit’s determination and the support of experienced players, the Indian team is poised to make a strong impression in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
