While the entire human life around the world has come to a complete halt amidst the novel Coronavirus pandemic, there has been no estimation on when normalcy will be restored. WHile countires have been put under lock downs, all sports activities have also been postponed indefinitely. Recently, the French Ligue 1, Dutch Eredivisie and Belgian First Division A were all cancelled. However, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has hinted a return date for the English Premier League, and its the 8th of June!
United Kingdom has been one of the worst hit countries in the COVID-19 crisis. More than 171,000 positive cases have been confirmed till date, along with a death toll that has crossed 26,000, third highest in the world.
The nationwide lock down in UK was imposed on 24th March, eleven days after the Premier League decided to suspend the league on 13th March. While the initial suspension was decided to be held until 4th April, it was further extended and is currently halted until 30th April.
Although, there was no confirmation or hints on when the English top flight football would see its return, until a tweet that emerged from the former England international.
Gary Neville tweeted the bombshell yesterday, claiming that EPL will see itself in motion on 8th of June. However, the former Red Devils icon didn’t cite any sources behind the claim, terming the announcement as ‘annonymous’.

However, most fans were not eager to see such an early restoration of footballing activity in the country, which is still taking the battle against the virus outbreak. The comments were filled with Twitterati disagreeing to see the sport returning anytime soon, as it can put the players at risk.
Some fans were also calling for a closure of the season, which still has 9 match days remaining out of its regular 38. As of now, Liverpool is leading the table with 82 points from 29 matches, 25 points clear of 2nd position Manchester City.
