BCCI President Sourav Ganguly refused to provide any statement regarding the volatile situation with Virat Kohli. However, he assured that the BCCI will take the proper measures required.
In a scathing press conference before departing for the South Africa tour, Virat Kohli revealed that he was not given any prior information behind the change in the ODI captaincy. He also claimed that no talks were held with Sourav Ganguly regarding the prospect of not leaving the T20 captaincy.
Ganguly was hounded by reporters in his home town and he offered no comments and said there won’t be any press conferences where the matter would be discussed. The former India captain said:
“No statements, no press conference. We will deal with it, leave it to (the) BCCI,”
Chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma was expected to speak to the media following Kohli’s revelations, but the event was canceled.
The BCCI are unlikely to make a rash decision, keeping upcoming South Africa as a priority.
“Expert opinion was taken on how to deal with the sensitive matter as it also involves the respect of a president’s office. The BCCI knows that a Test series is round the corner and any hasty decision or statement from them could affect the morale of the team,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Virat Kohli is on the lookout to be the first captain to lead an Indian side to a series win in South Africa. The traveling contingent have already arrived in Johannesburg and will participate in the tour under strict bio-bubble conditions.
The ace batter confirmed his availability for the ODI series, contrary to the reports that had emerged. The ODI series will be Rohit Sharma’s first assignment as the full-time captain if he returns to full fitness by January second week.
