“My game feels really good. Just my mindset, I’m just going to go play my game tomorrow, and whatever I got is what I got. If I lose, I lose, but hopefully I can win. I just need to play my game,” Aman Gupta said after his round of 16 win.

The 21 year old amateur, one of the last players to get into the field, is currently being trained by Oklahoma State University coach Alan Bratton.

“He’s helping me a lot,” Gupta went on as he praised his coach, “He does a very good job on the bag, even at college tournaments when he walks with me. He’s good at figuring out the number and helping you just commit to what you have.”

“He’ll fire you up at certain times, but otherwise he’s pretty even keeled. If you hit a bad shot, he’ll probably say, oh, that was bad or that was terrible, just move on and whatever you’ve got you’ve got. I think that personality fits really well with how I think through golf courses for sure,” he added.

The 21 year old sophomore is now seeded No. 5th in the championship, and will take on 43rd seed Michael Thorbjornsen in the quarterfinals tomorrow. Last year at the Pebble Beach, the 18-year old Thorbjornsen became the second youngest golfer to secure a berth at the US Open since the Second World War.

As a freshman, Aman Gupta earned his first career victory at the Southern Plains Intercollegiate. Previously, he reached the quarterfinals of the 2017 US Junior Amateurs. At the same year, Gupta came second at the North Carolina Open, and 11th at the Junior PLAYERS Championship.

Organised by the United States Golf Association (USGA), the 120th United States Amateur Championship 2020 is scheduled from 10th to 16th August, and is taking place at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.
