G Sathiyan crashes out of WTT Contender after losing to Chih-Yuan Chuangin in QF

Indian table tennis stalwart Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s campaign at the WTT Contender Zagreb Event 2022 saw its conclusion in the quarterfinals as he lost to Chih-Yuan Chuangin of Taiwan on Saturday in the Croatian capital.

Coming off of an 11-9,11-7, 12-10 straight set win against China’s Chen Yuanyu in the round of 16 yesterday, went down against World no. 18 Chih-Yuan in 7-11, 9-11, 5-11 straight sets to end his dream run at the event.

Chih-Yuan had the upper hand right from the start, taking the lead with seven points on his serve in the first set. The second set had a more close battle as the Indian paddler tried to close the gap, but the Taiwanese player kept himself ahead through and through and within 25 minutes, sealed his entry into the semis and ended Sathiyan’s campaign.

The World no. 34, who will be a part of the Indian TT contingent set for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next month, started his WTT Contender campaign after defeating World no. 6 and reigning European champion Darko Jorgic of Slovenia.
