A total of 351 cricketers that included 251 Indians went under the hammer ahead of the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League in Jaipur. Though the initial list was submitted consisted of 1003 players, it was trimmed down following the final list submitted from the 8 franchises.
From this list of 351 players, 70 were to be selected to fill each team’s maximum capacity. Finally the auction concluded with 60 players being picked which included 40 Indians and 20 overseas players.
The auction saw the Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat become the highest paid player for the second year running after Rajasthan Royals snapped him for 8.4 crores. Tamil Nadu’s mystery spinner CV Varun too saw himself win a jackpot after Kings XI Punjab brought him for 8.4 crores – starting with a base price of just 20 lakhs.
The other top buys included Colin Ingram (6.4 crore) to Delhi Capitals, Shivam Dubey (5 crore) to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sam Curran (7.2 crore) to Kings XI Punjab. Veteran all rounder Yuvraj Singh, who was on the verge of being unsold was picked up in the 11th hour by Mumbai Indians.
