No matter any big news that makes the headlines about Indian cricket, the country’s cricket fandom is eagerly waiting for a final answer to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s career. Although the Chennai Super Kings captain will return to the pitch on 15th April, the former Team India skipper has been absent from international fixtures since the 2019 World Cup semifinal. While a lot of speculations and and rumours are going around for the legendary wicketkeeper batsman’s future with India, a retired captain of the team has come up with his clairvoyance. In comes the one and only Sunil Gavaskar, who believes its time for MS Dhoni will soon bid farewell to the sport.

The IPL 2020 season, which according to many would give a final answer about Dhoni’s future with Team India, is now pushed back to 15th April amidst the Coronavirus pandemic. However, several fans are wanting to see the former captain to return to Men in Blue lineup for the upcoming T20 Men’s World Cup, which as of now is likely confirmed to happen later this year.

However, Sunil Gavaskar is seeing things differently. In a recent interview with Indian daily Dainik Jagran, the 1983 World Cup winner stated that India would partake in the T20 World Cup without the 38 year old hard hitter, even though the veteran himself would have liked to see that happening.

“I would certainly like to see Dhoni in India’s World Cup squad but it’s highly unlikely to happen,” Gavaskar told reporters.

From the 2007 Champions Trophy to the 2011 World Cup, Dhoni has led India to achieve the pinnacle of honours in international cricket, but Gavaskar feels that Mahi will now hang his boots up.

The 70 year old continued: “The team has moved on. Dhoni is not someone to make big announcements so I reckon he would silently retire from the game.”

Dhoni joined up with the CSK training squad earlier this month, but as the IPL has been pushed back for two weeks, MSD will now have to wait for some more before he can provide some answers on the 22 yards.

However, in the presence of the highly talented KL Rahul as India’s present wicket keeper, chances are rare that the supporters would see MSD joining up with the rest of the squad in near future.
