Former Stoke City player Jonathan Walters has gone on to reveal the tactics behind their success over Arsenal at home.
Jonathan Walters can be regarded as one of the most influential played Stoke City has seen at their club. His career at The Potters lasted for 7 years in which he went on to record 43 goals for the side.
Walters moved to Burnley in 2017 after playing 226 for Stoke. Now he is currently on loan at Ipswich Town.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Walters went on to reveal why during his seven years at Stoke, Arsenal won just once vs them at their home. In the interview he mainly credited the side’s success over Gunners to fans involvement and the player’s mentality.
The striker said that the side would try to get through the Arsenal players early into the game and reveal the other side of Arsene Wenger. He went on to say that this early pressing and passionate start would usually help the fans in the stadium come to life.
“We used to bully Arsenal… they hated coming to SCFC. First challenge I’d go right through the opponent and get the crowd up. We knew Arsenal would wilt,” said Walters.
He then went on to say that Arsenal weren’t a resilient side and would crumble under the pressure being applied on him.
