Former South African captain weighs in on Ab de Villiers controversy

There has been a lot of talk around how Ab de Villiers wanted to return to International cricket but was denied by the South African board. This incident has evoked a big debate among the fans and media. Shaun Pollock had his say recently on whether Ab de Villiers should have made it to the World Cup team.

Ab de Villiers retired last year after the series against Australia.

The former South Africa skipper feels that it would have been disruptive for the team if de Villiers made a comeback for the World Cup. Pollock also added that if only he had made himself available for selection a bit earlier, it would have been better for South Africa cricket.

“If it did come just as the (World Cup) team was about to be announced, that’s quite disruptive from a team perspective,” Pollock said.

“If we do find out he was available, maybe he should have spoken up a little earlier. That would have been good,” he added.

Ab de Villiers had surprised the World last year when he announced his retirement on social media, after making a successful comeback for South Africa against the Aussies in a test series.
