Former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh has taken on the role of head coach for the Kenya cricket team. His appointment aims to rejuvenate Kenyan cricket and propel them towards World Cup qualification.
Ganesh, a former Indian all-rounder, has been named the head coach of the Kenya men’s cricket team. The announcement was made on August 13, where Ganesh was seen exchanging greetings with Kenya Cricket Officials at the Sikh Union Club. He brings extensive coaching experience to the position, and his mission is to uplift Kenya’s cricketing fortunes.
Dodda Ganesh’s Assignments ahead
As the head coach, Ganesh’s initial assignments include the ICC Division 2 Challenge League. Kenya will face Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey in this league in September. T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, scheduled for October, these qualifiers are crucial for Kenya’s World Cup aspirations.
Kenya was part of five consecutive World Cups from 1996 to 2011. They even reached the semi-finals of the 2003 ODI World Cup. However, they lost their ODI status after the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
Ganesh’s primary focus is to help Kenya qualify for the World Cup. He believes in the spirit of champions among Kenyan players and is impressed by their talent. Despite past challenges, he sees potential and aims to guide the team to success.

Ganesh replaces Lameck Onyango as the head coach but will receive support from Onyango, Joseph Angara, and Joseph Asichi on the coaching front.
Ganesh, known for his medium-pace bowling and lower-order batting, played four Tests and one ODI for India in 1997. His international career included 29 runs and six wickets.
