Former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has made a return to his homeland of Germany, as the scout takes up a higher role at Bundesliga’s struggling VfB Stuttgart side. The German stayed for just over a year in north London, before heading back to Germany in lieu of better working opportunities.

Mislintat joined Arsenal in 2017 after spending 11 years as German club Borussia Dortmund’s scout. However, the German made a shock exit in February this year, just under 14 months since arriving at the Emirates following a power struggle with the Gunners’ new hierarchy at the top.

Dortmund’s “diamond eye” was said to be taking up a similar role back in the German capital at Bayern Munich. However, fellow Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart announced Mislintat as the club’s new sporting director.

Stuttgart are struggling in the Bundesliga this term, being positioned in the 16th place with just 21 points out of 28 matches, and having won just one of their last five league games, face the possibility of being relegated with 6 more games left to be played.

Mislintat, having being tasked with making reforms in the club on an immediate basis said:-

“It is a Huge challenge and at the same time a Great honour to be able to work for a club like VfB. I grew up in the Environment of Traditional Clubs, this Atmosphere is very important to me.”
