Ex-Manchester United and Everton striker, Wayne Rooney has moved to DC United to play in the Major League Soccer.
He has signed a contract for three and a half years and will complete his move on 10th July when the mid-season window opens in the USA. There is no transfer fee involved between DC United and the Toffees but it is being understood that a compensation package close to £10m is involved.
Rooney will make his debut in MLS when the new Audi-Field stadium of 20000 capacity opens on 14th July.
“Moving to America and MLS fulfils another career ambition for me,” Rooney said.
“It is fantastic to be joining DC United at such an exciting time in the club’s history with the new stadium opening in just a few weeks,” said Rooney, who flew out to America on Thursday.
Rooney, who turns 33 in October, will occupy a designated player spot on the club’s roster and will leave the PL as the second highest goalscorer (208) only being beaten by Alan Shearer (260).
