While the Covid-19 pandemic has struck the world with all perfection, we face an extended, unprecedented period of lockdown. While Covid-19 patients are getting enough care, patients of other illnesses are in trouble. While easily curable patients can be lightly treated on such an occasion, tough diseases are, in reality, not dead. If getting enough medical attention is a problem, getting transport health is nothing less than a traumatic disaster. Fortunately, Dingko Singh won’t suffer the trauma.

Spicejet has declared that their air ambulance will carry retired boxer Dingko Singh from Imphal, the capital of Manipur, to the national capital: Delhi. He needs to be taken there immediately in order to receive treatment for liver cancer. Moreover, no charges will be incurred by Spicejet for the travel. It has been fortunate for Singh that Spicejet’s Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh is also the President of BFI (Boxing Federation of India), who assured immediate help to the ailing boxer.

“The air ambulance service will be provided free of charge to the Padma awardee,” Spicejet confirmed in a statement.

“The decision to fly Dingko to Delhi was taken by SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh who is also the President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI). The air ambulance service was launched by SpiceJet through its 100 per cent subsidiary this year with the aim to offer immediate assistance in case of critical emergencies,” the statement added.

Among other trophies, Singh won the Gold Medal at the 1998 Asian Games at Bangkok. To commemorate his excellence in the sport of Boxing, and his extraordinary contribution to the nation by his consistent efforts and dedication, Dingko Singh was honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 1998 and Padma shri in 2013.

“It was really unfortunate that Dingko Singh missed his treatment session due to the ongoing lockdown. It is a matter of great privilege for SpiceJet to offer its air ambulance service to our national hero and fly him from Imphal to Delhi for his treatment,” Ajay Singh said.

“Dingko Singh has won many big bouts for India and we pray that he emerges victorious in his fight against liver cancer. In these difficult times, all of us have a responsibility to assist our government and fellow citizens in every way possible, the BFI Prez added.
