The under-19 World Cup has been a solid platform to launch talents such as Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Yuvraj Singh into the big leagues. But there are instances seen where some top performers of the tournament fail to capitalize on their opportunities.

ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 in Australia

Here are five players who faded away after staggering performances in the Under-19 World Cup.

5. Harmeet Singh:

The slow left-arm Orthodox bowler was one of the main reasons behind India’s u19 world Cup 2012 win by picking six wickets in 4 matches at an astounding economy rate of 3.02. He was praised by Ian Chappell, who was said he should be playing for India, claiming “natural flight and guile would right now place him as the best spin bowler in any test side bar England”.

Subsequently, Rajasthan Royals picked him in IPL 2013. But unfortunately for him, he found himself surrounded in the infamous Spot-fixing Saga, where a bookie alleged to have contacted him but couldn’t close the deal as he was too young. BCCI cleared Harmeet after proper investigation.

Since then, he has not been picked in any IPL franchise and has not made his mark in domestic cricket till now.

4. Armaan Jaffer:

The talented right-hand batsman, who’s also the nephew of former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer finished as the third-highest run-scorer for India in their runners-up campaign of under 19 world Cup in 2016.

Armaan was one of the most promising youngsters in the country. He made a name for himself after scoring the highest individual score in Indian School cricket in 2010. He also broke the record for the highest score in the Giles Shield.

His domestic performances were rewarded and Kings XI Punjab picked him in 2016. Still, was not given an opportunity to feature in any game and was ultimately released. He’s not under the radar of any IPL franchises right now and is currently playing for Mumbai in domestic cricket.

3. Ravikant Singh:

This right-arm seamer from Bengal represented India in the U19 World Cup 2012. He played a crucial role in India’s World Cup winning campaign.

He ended up as the highest wicket-taker for India by scalping 12 wickets in 5 matches, including a five-wicket Hall against Papua New Guinea.

But sadly, his under 19 performances couldn’t land him a spot in any IPL squads. Ravikant is nowhere to be found now and is lost in the wild forest of Indian Domestic structure.

2. Vijay Zol :

The elegant left-hand batsman is one of the few Indian players to have played two world cups. He was a part of the winning campaign of 2012 but couldn’t replicate this performance in 2014. India crashed out in the Quarter-finals. Zol wasn’t able to perform as captain and as a batsman.

He was picked by RCB in 2012 and again in 2014 where he finally got some game time but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities he got in that season. He was ultimately dropped from the side and has never been picked by any IPL franchise ever since.

1. Unmukt Chand :

The stylish right-hand batsman lead from the front and helped India lift the Under19 title for the 3rd time in 2012. He finished as India’s highest run-scorer with 349 runs in 6 matches at an average of 49.2. He was the man of the match in the final, where he played a blistering knock of 111* against Australia.

After the successful campaign, it’s not been an easy ride for Unmukt as he has had many road bumps in his way. So far, he has little to no success in IPL, and now no IPL franchise is interested in picking him. He is the only Indian U19 World Cup winning captain who has not made an international debut.
