Fort William FC, a very small name in Scottish football scene, has suddenly gained center of attention from media outlets after achieving their first win after an 840 day streak, defeating Nairn County in the North of Scotland Cup tournament this Wednesday.
The Highland Football League side from Lochaber, Scotland finally defeated the Nairn based club 5-2 at Claggan Park after two years, after they had earned the reputation of being ‘Britain’s worst football team’, with a goal difference of -224 last season.
Established in 1974 and entering the league in 1985, the Scottish side’s last victory came in 2017 in the same tournament against Elgin City, and followed two seasons of victoryless rough patch, due to financial troubles.
The club’s official Twitter handle @FortWilliamFC celebrated the victory on the social media platform, along with felicitations from other clubs and media outlets.
