Despite the recent dominance by the Men In Blue in International circuit, the team have come to a screeching halt in the vital knockout fixtures especially the semi-finals. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly claimed that the team of this calibre should be going past the semis stage after reaching.
India have managed to reach the semi-finals of each and every ICC tournament since the 2013 Champions Trophy but have no silverware to show for it. Sourav Ganguly claimed that the team will get all the help required for getting past the semi-finals. The former captain addressed the issue as a mental thing. He said:
“I am sure Virat (Kohli), Rohit (Sharma) and other players will hopefully do it at one stage. We can support them. In my playing days, I could bat and get India to a final. But none of us can do it now. We can only help. We can give them what they want — can give them facilities, but I am sure this team will get past,”
Ganguly also went on to address the young squad’s chances at the U-19 World Cup in 2020. He added:
“We won the last U-19 World Cup. Under Rahul (Dravid), Paras (Mhambrey) and other staff, we will be able to do well in South Africa,”
