Greetings readers. We’re back yet again with FIFA’s edition of today’s “Stats of the Day” feature.

Here is an excerpt of the “Stats of the Day”:

  • 1977 – The first-ever World Youth Championship kicks off in Tunisia with two matches played simultaneously. Ten players (Brazil’s Bebeto, Dida, Dunga, Jorginho, Mueller, Taffarel; Spain’s Iker Casillas, Xavi Hernandez, Carlos Marchena and Argentina’s Diego Maradona) and one coach (Argentina’s Cesar Luis Menotti) have won both a FIFA U-20 World Cup and a FIFA World Cup.
  • 1994 – Erwin Sanchez scores in a 3-1 loss to Spain to end Bolivia’s record five-match goal drought after a total of 517 minutes. It remains the longest such series in FIFA World Cup history and includes matches played in the 1930, 1950 and 1994 editions.
  • 2006 – By beating Ghana 3-0 in the round of 16, Brazil set an impressive World Cup record of 11 consecutive wins dating back to their win against Turkey on 3 June 2002. Adriano’s strike to make it 2-0 is Brazil’s 200th goal in the competition.
