Here is an excerpt of FIFA’s “Stats of the Day”:
- 1954 – Germany FR unexpectedly clinch their first FIFA World Cup after coming from two goals down to defeat Hungary 3-2 in Berne, with Helmut Rahn striking the winner with six minutes to go.
- 2006 – With ten different scorers in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup, Italy equalise France’s record from 1982. Alessandro Del Piero becomes the tenth and last scorer with his goal to make it 2-0 in the semi-final against Germany.
