Cristiano Ronaldo’s netted his 4th goal of the tournament as Portugal beat Morocco 1-0. By virtue of this defeat Morocco become the first team to be eliminated from the World Cup.
The Real Madrid and Portugal striker converted a corner in the 4th minute to put his side into an early lead. This goal marked Ronaldo’s 85th international goal thus overtaking Ferenc Puskás in the all time list of highest international goalscorers.
Morocco put on constant pressure through the likes of Amrabat throughout the match but they just could not convert a chance coming close many times.
The second half saw a superb performance from the Portugal goal keeper Rui Patricio. He made a superb diving save to keep out Younes Belhanda’s header and keep his team still in lead.
Juventus’s Medhi Benatia also spurned a good chance for Herve Renard’s side to pull level but Portugal did enough to hold on for the win.
This win puts Portugal on the verge of qualifying for the next round with them due to play Iran next.
