The first half saw Aussies defended solidly as they kept off the constant pressure put by the Blues while also creating the odd chances to score.

The second half had some drama to show after a tame beginning. In the 58th minute Risdon mistimed his challenge on Griezmann. The controversial penalty was awarded after the referee consulted the Video Assistant Replay. Griezmann had no problems scoring the spot kick to put France ahead.

4 minutes later Jedinak converted from the spot for Australia after Umtiti deliberately played a handball inside the box.

France lacked their usual style of play throughout the match and it looked as though the match was heading towards a draw before Paul Pogba scored the decisive goal.

This win puts the blues at the top of Group C with Denmark and Peru yet to play.

Here are the goals from the match.
