From death to back into life, it has been one hell of a journey for Argentina as they’ve made it to the last sixteen beating Nigeria 2-1, combined with a Croatia’s 2-1 win over European underdogs Iceland.

Manchester United star Marco Rojo’s late winner started the never-ending celebration in Argentina as they made it to last sixteen. The center-back appeared in one of the unlikeliest position as he netted home a wonderful cross coming from Gabriel Mercado. The two time World Cup winners La Albiceleste entered the battle well aware of their situation that a win can only take them to the round of 16, nothing else would work.

It was Lionel Messi who opened the scoring account for Argentina as he scored his first goal of this World Cup from a spectacular long ball coming from Sevilla’s Ever Banega. However, La Albiceleste failed to keep their lead intact as Nigeria bounced back in the 51st minute of the game after referee rewarded them with a penalty. It was Chelsea star Victor Moses who scored from the spot kick.

However, in the ending moments of the game, Marcos Rojo gifted Argentina their lifeline as he scored from a spectacular cross making it 2-1 for Argentina. The South American Giants will now face Group C leaders France as they look forward to qualifying for the quarter-finals.
