Former Indian batsman and current Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina is preparing for the upcoming second leg of IPL 2021. He is one of their key players who has been with the franchise since it’s inaugural year. Hence, he has been given the name ‘Chinna Thala’ by the CSK supporters.

The CSK team has already begun training for the second leg. With CSK players sweating it out in training they shared a picture of ‘Chinna Thala’ on Twitter. Raina can be seen smiling in the photo and gave a fitting caption: ‘Chinna smile for you.’

However, what caught the Netizens’ attention was how chubby Raina was looking. Several users criticized his fitness and asked him to shred some weight in order to get in shape before the IPL.

Tweets:

Raina has not been playing consistently. He has not even played domestic cricket for a long time. Hence, due to lack of cricket he has gained weight. However, the southpaw will be working hard in order to get back into shape before he steps into the field on September 19.

Hopefully, we can do it again this year for MS: Suresh Raina on winning the IPL

In 2020, CSK gave the worst performance of their IPL career. For the first time in the history of the IPL, they failed to make it to the top four. However, they made a strong comeback this year as they are comfortably seated in the top 2.

The team found their mojo back with the return of Suresh Raina. Also, the key addition of Moeen Ali has benefited them immensely. Their team has quality all rounders like Sam Curran, DJ Bravo and Ravi Jadeja. CSK also have the luxury of having two quality Indian pacers Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar.

Hence, they are one of the strong contenders this year.

Apart from Mumbai Indians,  CSK are one of the strongest teams in the IPL. They have won three titles. But this time, Raina wants to win the IPL for his good friend and captain MS Dhoni.

“Hopefully, when we go to Dubai, we will have a camp and we can again win it for him. I think the way we were playing this year, we were having some extra confidence from his captaincy and he was enjoying each other’s success. He was giving freedom to all the players and having Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, and Ruturaj in the side, we had the momentum. Hopefully, we can do it again this year for MS,” Raina said on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected.
