Cricket fans worldwide are urging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate the remaining three matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 out of Florida due to severe weather conditions. Heavy rains and flash floods have disrupted life in South Florida, leading to concerns about the feasibility of the upcoming games.

Florida submerged ahead of T20 World Cup matches

The torrential downpour on June 12 submerged streets in the region, disrupting daily life and prompting widespread concern among residents. Images and videos circulated widely on social media depicted waterlogged roads, underscoring the impact of the heavy rainfall.

With flood warnings in effect, fans have expressed apprehension about the scheduled matches at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, scheduled for June 14, 15, and 16.

The matches in question are crucial for the tournament. The USA, co-hosts of the tournament, are set to face Ireland on June 14. A victory in this match would secure their place in the next round, even if the match is affected by adverse weather conditions. Monank Patel, leading the USA team, remarked, “A win for us against Ireland will be crucial to our advancement.”

Pakistan, currently third in Group A standings with two points from three matches, faces a critical scenario. A washout in their upcoming matches could severely dent their chances of progressing further in the tournament. For Pakistan, the prospect of a rain-affected match against Ireland looms large, necessitating a victory to remain competitive. The team, led by Babar Azam, has faced challenges in their campaign so far, including a narrow loss to the USA in the super over and a disappointing defeat in their subsequent match.

Fans are suggesting alternative venues like New York or Dallas for the remaining matches. These cities are perceived to be safer from the current weather disruptions plaguing Florida. The ICC faces a pivotal decision amidst growing calls for venue relocation.
