In an interview given to Daily Mail, former Manchester United winger Febian Brandy revealed how he turned down an offer from Barcelona while he was a junior.
As a youngster, he won the Player of the Tournament at a competition in Barcelona and he immediately got under the radar of scouts from La Masia academy who contacted his parents and asked if he wanted to join.
Naturally, Sir Alex Ferguson, then Man Utd manager found out about the news.
“He called me into his office and asked me, ‘Have you heard?'”
“I knew what he was talking about but said, ‘Heard what?’
“He went: ‘Barcelona have enquired about you. How do you feel about it?’
“I just said, ‘I am a Manchester lad, a local lad, and I’d be basically stupid to leave.’
“He tapped me on the head, said ‘good lad’ and walked off.”
