IPL: Ahmedabad or Lucknow? Teams will be Announced soon after Bid Verification | Latest & Breaking News, India News, Political, Sports- Since independence

The existing 8 teams had the opportunity to retain a maximum of four players out of which there could have been at most 3 Indians and not more than 2 overseas. After the teams have announced their lists, two new franchises i.e. Ahmedabad and Lucknow will be able to pick a maximum of three players – not more than two Indians and not more than one foreigner-before the mega auctions.

All 10 teams have a purse of 90 Cr and deductions will apply based on the number of retentions. In case of four retentions, Rs 42 crore will be cut from the funds, Rs 33 crore in case of three retentions, Rs 24 crore if there are two retentions, and only Rs 14 crore if a team keeps only one player. However, if a franchisee pays any player(s) more than the suggested slab (they are permitted to), then the difference is deductible from the franchise’s purse.

Let’s have a look at the players retained by the existing franchisees and their remaining budgets

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

The champions of this season retained R Jadeja (16 cr) as their first choice followed by MS Dhoni (12 cr), Moeen Ali (8 cr), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 cr). CSK has 48 cr left in their purse.

Tough calls: CSK had to make the tough choice of leaving out Suresh Raina, who is also known as the Chinna Thala of CSK. They have also let go of talented Indian players in  Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur who are bound to fetch good prices in the auction.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, And Venkatesh Iyer Retained By Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) For IPL 2022
The runners-up of the latest season retained Andre Russell (12 cr),  Venkatesh Iyer (8 cr), Varun Chakravarthy (8cr), and Sunil Narine (6 cr). The remaining balance in KKR’s purse is 48 cr

Tough calls: KKR had to let go of Gill who could have been a future captaincy candidate for them. They also had to let go of Pat Cummins and Lockie Ferguson who were a tear-away bowling pair. KKR is one of the few teams who have released their captain in Eoin Morgan.

3. Delhi Capitals (DC)

IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals Retain 3 Indians & 1 Overseas Player Including Rishabh Pant
Delhi, who were the better team for the most part of IPL 2021 retained Rishabh Pant (16cr),  Axar Patel (9 cr), Prithvi Shaw (7.5 cr), and Anrich Nortje (6.5 cr) and have 47.5 cr left in their purse which is the least among the eight teams.

Tough calls: Delhi and Mumbai were two franchises that had to make tough calls. They had established a world-class squad and now have to let go of the majority of them. Some of the star players released by Delhi include Shreyas Iyer, R Ashwin, S Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, and Marcus Stoinis.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, And Mohammed Siraj Retained By Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) For IPL 2022
The men in red retained Virat Kohli (15 cr), Glenn Maxwell (11 cr), and Mohammed Siraj (7 cr). RCB didn’t use all four of their retentions and hence have 57 cr left in their kitty.

Tough calls: RCB had to let go of quality Indian players in Washington Sundar, Harshal Patel, Devdutt Paddikal, and their premier bowler for the past 7 years Yuzi Chahal. Also, they will miss the services of AB de Villiers who has announced his retirement.

5. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, And Kieron Pollard Retained By Mumbai Indians (MI) For IPL 2022
The most successful team in the IPL retained Rohit Sharma (16 cr), Jasprit Bumrah (12 cr), Suryakumar Yadav (8 cr), and Kieron Pollard (6 cr). The five-time champs have 48 cr left in their bank.

Tough calls: Like Delhi, Mumbai had a problem of plenty. They had to sacrifice quality players like the Pandya brothers, Ishan Kishan, de Kock, and Trent Boult. The MI management had created a champion side with 11 matchwinners in the playing eleven. Hence, MI might be the most affected team by the restructuring.

6. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Mayank Agarwal And Arshdeep Singh Retained By Punjab Kings (PBKS) For IPL 2022
The Punjab side faced a lot of difficulty in retaining their talent. However, they managed to retain Mayank Agarwal (12 cr) and uncapped Arshdeep Singh (4 cr) with an eye on the future. PBKS have 72 cr left in their purse which is the highest among the existing teams.

Tough calls: Punjab Management was unable to convince their top performer and captain KL Rahul to stay as he wished to go into the auction. Punjab also didn’t retain quality Indian players like Mohammed Shami and rising Indian youngsters Ravi Bishnoi and Shahrukh Khan.

Tough calls: Rajasthan had to let go of English giants Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes due to their availability concerns. Jofra Archer has been out for the most part of the year due to an elbow injury and Ben Stokes hasn’t been able to justify his price tag with Rajasthan Royals.

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

IPL 2022: 3 Big Players Who Won't Be Retained By Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers Hyderabad’s retention list was full of surprises. Expectedly, they did retain Kane Williamson (14 cr) but they are the only team to retain two uncapped Indian players in Abdul Samad (4 cr) and Umran Malik (4 cr). They now have 68 crores available to spend in their purse.

Tough calls: Surprisingly, SRH couldn’t convince Rashid Khan, who is one of the best T20 bowlers on the planet, to stay. SRH has also released the most destructive opening duo in IPL i.e. Jonny Bairstow and David Warmer. They have also let go of Indian stalwart Bhuvneshwar Kumar and impressive T20 bowler T Natarajan.
